Clericus: Digital Humanities Research Project

Clericus is a digital humanities research project that aims to develop a biographical database on the Irish clerical population for the early modern and modern periods (c.1535-1945). The project is based in Maynooth University’s Arts and Humanities Institute (MUAHI) and combines ground-breaking digital technology with first-class historical research to deliver a uniquely important archive and an absorbing cultural experience. To date, the database contains almost 18,000 biographical entries and a host of other sources such as unique portraits.
