Canon James Kelly AP Tooreen

The death has taken place of Very Reverend Canon James Kelly, AP of Tooreen, Ballyhaunis and formerly of The Octagon, Westport.

Canon James, a native of Westport and was ordained to the priesthood in 1955. He passed away in the care of the Ave Maria Nursing Home in Tooreen. Paying tribute to him, Archbishop Michael Neary says the Eucharist and Eucharistic Adoration was central to Canon Kelly’s life.

Predeceased by his parents James & Molly, his brothers Peter (Canada) & John (Westport).Survived by his brother Fr Patrick (SPS, Drogheda), nieces Marie (U.S.A.), Eileen (Dublin), Jane (London) & Susan (Westport), his nephew James (Westport), his grace Archbishop Michael Neary & the priests of the Archdiocese of Tuam, all of his former parishioners and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements

Funeral Mass in St Mary’s Church, Tooreen, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo on Friday 3rd of April at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in the Church Grounds.

Please note due to HSE and government guidelines Canon James Kelly’s funeral will be confined to family members only. 

The celebration of Canon Kelly’s funeral mass will be live-streamed.
