Pilgrimage to Máméan

Máméan is an ancient pilgrimage site in the Maamturk Mountains between the Parishes of Leenane and Recess. St. Patrick ‘Christianised’ it in the early centuries of the first millennium. Devotions are held there annually with Mass on St. Patrick’s Day, Stations of the Cross on Good Friday and Mass and Stations of the Cross on the first Sunday of August.
